About Mermaid Waters Community Kindergarten

Mermaid Waters Community Kindergarten is a not-for-profit, community-owned organisation, and the excellent standard that families enjoy today is due to the dedication and enthusiasm of past parents, committees and staff.

The Kindergarten is administered by a Management Committee made up of volunteer parents with assistance from the Director.

We are proudly affiliated with Lady Gowrie and partly funded through the Qld Department of Education and Training. Regulations of both organisations are followed within the policies and practices at the kindergarten.

In 2022, the Kindergarten received the “Exceeding National Standards” rating from ACECQA (Australian Children’s Education and Care Authority).

"Play is precious,
Play builds pathways for thinking,
creativity, flexibility, empathy
and many other lifetime skills."
Helen Schumaker
Why choose a Lady Gowrie Kindergarten?

Lady Gowrie Qld has been providing education and care for children and their families since 1940.

As parents know, children are active and competent learners. That’s why your child’s early learning is our priority. We focus on expanding your child’s knowledge and skills and providing for the interests.

We create a safe, welcoming and stimulating learning environment for your child that:

  • encourages thoughtful play and early literacy and numeracy development

  • promotes a strong sense of belonging and self worth

  • facilitates warm trusting relationships and interactions with others

  • strengthens resilience, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity

  • promotes communication and problem solving

  • develops capacity to express and acknowledge feelings.

Our History

Our Community Kindergarten has been nurturing
children, in partnership with families since 1977.

The Land Developer of this area donated the land to the community for the purpose of a Community Kindergarten to be constructed.

Funds were raised and the building constructed to welcome the first groups of children in 1977. The Kindergarten was officially opened by the Honourable Eric Robinson MHR on the 9th of July 1977.
